Biography

Born Washington D.C USA, 1945; American father, British-American mother.  Lived in UK since 1949. Journalist from aged 19; Manchester Evening News; Daily Nation, Nairobi; Rand Daily Mail, Johannesburg; Drum Magazine, Johannesburg. Sunday Times Magazine, London,1968, feature writer. The Observer 1977-1979. Left full-time journalism to write ‘White Mischief,’ 1982; ‘The Langhorne Sisters,’ (‘Five Sisters’ USA) 1992; co-authored ‘Life’, the autobiography of Keith Richards, 2010, winner of the Norman Mailer Prize.  Contributor to numerous publications, listed below. Work in progress: autobiography of artist Damien Hirst.
Two sons, Thomas and Jimmy; lives in London.
