Profile of Sam White, the legendary Paris correspondent of the Evening Standard from the late 1950’s, who sat always in the same corner of the Crillon Hotel bar near a telephone and a pink gin, from about 12pm. When he retired the bar corner was cut out and sent to his apartment. Sam got his many scoops and coups from that sedentary position, as my piece relates.
